Motor Gas Separator (MGS™) Tool

Detailed Description

The MGS™ (motor gas separator) tool incorporates a rotary drum separator that removes the gas from energized flow before it reaches the downhole motor. Bypassing the gas allows operation of the motor at its design flow rate while simultaneously running high gas flow rates. The gas port in the MGS™ tool can be sized as needed in the field to accommodate well conditions and gas flow rate.

A water bypass sub (WBS) is also available. This tool incorporates ports designed to bypass water above the motor to allow higher flow rates for well cleaning without overspeeding the motor.

Application software is provided for planning well interventions with either the MGS™ or WBS tools. The software is used to calculate circulating pressure, size the bypass ports and to evaluate transport of sand and cuttings in the horizontal and vertical sections of the well.
